Tony Hailed a Winner!

Merseytravel union learning representative Tony Norbury has been awarded the regional individual National Training Award for the positive impact his individual training journey has had on the taxi and private hire sector. Tony, from Tranmere on the Wirral, received his award from North West Tonight presenter Ranvir Singh at the Palace Hotel, Manchester on Tuesday 13th October. As a result, he will go on to represent the North West at the National Training Awards in London on the 10th December.
Tony has been an integral part on the Merseylearn initiative for over 3 years. The taxi drivers’ project was funded as part of Merseylearn’s union learning fund project following its successes in other areas of the transport sector. Now in its 11th year of funding, the union learning fund encourages and supports union-led learning with the help of union learning representatives who work in partnership to inspire, support and encourage their colleagues throughout their learning journey.
Tony said of his award: ‘Even though it is a personal accolade to me that I am really proud to receive, it is also a tribute to all those who have been connected with the taxi and private training programme. It has been, and still is, a fantastic development journey for me personally and I would like to thank all of those who offered support and encouragement in the past and look forward to it continuing in the future.’
Tony was also congratulated by unionlearn union development co-ordinator and NTA regional panel judge, Tony Saunders, who added “We are really pleased for Tony and his colleagues at Merseytravel. Unionlearn has supported the Merseylearn taxi drivers’ project since its inception and see this award as recognition of all the hard work ULRs and learners have put in to achieve their goals. We look forward to continuing our support and wish Tony the best of luck in the national awards in London.’
