Union officials, project leaders and reps had their hard work and innovative contributions to learning and training celebrated at a glitzy Union Learning Fund award ceremony at Congress House, last week (March 18). The event was hosted by Channel 4's Alex Thompson, who introduced speeches from Pat McFadden, minister of state for Business Innovation and Skills, and Frances O'Grady, TUC deputy general secretary. The guest speaker, comedian Lenny Henry, who recently won acclaim for his role as Othello, gave out the prizes. Community Learning Champion Support Programme Unionlearn is part of a consortium that is assisting in the development of the Community Learning Champions Support Programme. The programme is funded by BIS. Merseytravel union learning representative Tony Norbury has been awarded the regional individual National Training Award for the positive impact his individual training journey has had on the taxi and private hire sector. Tony, from Tranmere on the Wirral, received his award from North West Tonight presenter Ranvir Singh at the Palace Hotel, Manchester on Tuesday 13th October.   FBU General Secretary, Matt Wrack, launched the FBU's Dyslexia Guidance document for officials and members at the unions National ULR School. The school took place at Stoke Rochford Hall on 6th & 7th July and was attended by 70 ulrs and Senior Officials. The document provides key advice and includes a draft policy and risk assessment to support ulrs and officials when dealing with issues around Dyslexia.
