HMRC Adult Apprentice does the Business at Awards!
On 24th May at the Stadium of Light, a delighted Carole Brown, of Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in the city, was presented with the Adult Apprenticeship of the Year Award for Business Administration.
Carole embarked on the Adult Apprenticeship thanks to PCS branch learning co-ordinator and active union learning rep (ULR), Tracy Maddison, who negotiated delivery of the free learning through Dave Hall, the Director of Work Based Learning at Sunderland College.
Tracy said: 'I knew from speaking to staff in the workplace that there was a great interest for adult learning. The fact that staff could see a tutor on site in their own time without having to attend college was brilliant. We arranged for Dave and his team to come to Waterview Park and give information on the courses available.
'The event was a success and 24 staff signed up to complete an Adult Apprenticeship. The success of the pilot - and Carole - has meant other PCS and HMRC sites throughout the region are now offering this learning opportunity with support from the Union Learning Fund.'
Carole's tutor, Dianne Hope praised her achievements and willingness to learn saying: 'Carole has the confidence to get on with her work quickly and competently. She can easily identify various parts of her job and how they fit with the units she has selected. Carole is motivated to achieve both the Level 2 and Level 3 in Business Admin through her work at HMRC.
'She has also offered support to the other learners at Waterview Park who have enrolled onto the same course. She deserves this award because of her motivation and eagerness to achieve.'
Carole said:
I was really pleased to win the award, and this learning opportunity has given me the confidence to go on to Level 4. The support I have received throughout has been invaluable.
Obviously, Carole's success and enhanced skills haven't gone unnoticed by her employer either and her manager, Jayne Storey said, 'This is a fantastic achievement for Carole and thoroughly deserved. I am delighted that her hard work has been recognised and felt extremely proud of her on the awards ceremony evening as she received her award.'
